Jennifer Burdman is a seasoned intellectual property attorney and executive with deep experience spanning Big Law partnership and in-house leadership at pre-IPO and publicly traded biotechnology companies. She has served as Chief IP Officer and senior legal counsel at the forefront of AI-driven drug discovery, building and protecting global IP portfolios while advising boards, management teams, and investors on the full spectrum of IP strategy, transactions, and risk.

Areas of Focus

I.  IP Strategy & Portfolio Development

Jennifer has led the creation and execution of global IP strategies for biotechnology companies at every stage of growth — from pre-IPO startups to NASDAQ-listed enterprises. Her work encompasses the procurement, management, and monetization of patent and trademark portfolios.  She has counseled executive management and boards of directors on IP strategy, SEC disclosure obligations related to IP, data governance, and trade secret protection, and has presented regularly to the investment community on IP portfolio value.

II.  Licensing & Transactions

Jennifer has served as primary legal negotiator on complex collaboration, licensing, and joint development agreements, including a large pharma collaboration recognized as one of the top 20 biopharma deals of 2023. She advises on IP and regulatory matters across the full range of business development activity — including M&A, strategic alliances, research and collaboration agreements, and commercial contracts — with hands-on experience managing post-acquisition integration of IP and licensing portfolios. She leads due diligence for strategic transactions with a focus on patents, trade secrets, antitrust, and regulatory risk, and has advised on AI/ML licensing transactions and government grant matters.

III.  Litigation & Disputes

Jennifer is a seasoned first-chair trial lawyer with an exceptional track record in high-stakes IP litigation. She has represented clients in federal patent infringement actions, trade secret misappropriation cases, and contract disputes, securing a $34.7 million jury verdict in a patent infringement trial (affirmed by the Federal Circuit) and a $32 million declaratory relief judgment for a university patentee. In addition to her trial practice, Jennifer has extensive experience managing complex litigation dockets, directing outside counsel, supervising document retention and production, and advising boards and management on litigation and settlement strategy, including SEC-related and shareholder matters.
